ICAO Map -
                    An Aviation Utility

                    (c) 1993 Martin Pauly

This file contains a brief description of ICAO version 0.60b,
which has been released in November 1993.

ICAO is an interactive program running under X11/Motif. Its
input is a so called "world file", which is an ASCII file
containing descriptions of objects such as airports, roads,
towns, radio beacons and the like. ICAO will use either
Lambert or Mercator projection to generate a map from this
world file, either on your screen or as PostScript output.

ICAO allows you to interactively work with the map on the
screen, i.e. scroll it, use a rubber line to measure distances
and tracks etc. Additional features are available for both
motorized flights and soaring.

Version 0.60b (the 'b' meaning beta) is the first version
that is released. Though ICAO is copyrighted software,
it may be copied and used free of charge. See the
licencing information in the ICAO manual that is distributed
with ICAO.

The following files have been uploaded to a number of
FTP servers:

* icao.README:
  You are currently reading this file.

* icao.060b.DOC.ps.z:
  This is a gzipped PostScript file that tells you how
  to use ICAO and how the world file is organized.
  The man file (which is also included in this archive)
  contains the text of this document for those who can't
  print or display PostScript files.

* icao.060b.SOURCE.tar.z:
  Right, this is the source code. It was compiled under
  Linux using gcc. An Imakefile will hopefully make it
  work on other systems as well. A world file covering
  parts of Germany is also included.

* icao.060b.BIN.LINUX.tar.z:
  Contains two Linux binaries, one for those who have
  Motif installed on their system and one which includes
  the Motif libraries (static linking). Also contains a
  copy of the world file.

I have hardly any experience on how easy it is to compile
ICAO on non-Linux systems, so I appreciate any feedback
from your side.
