This is my port of the 386BSD syslog facility. I've been using it without a hitch for quite a while. It uses a named pipe for sending local messages instead of a unix domain socket (which are not fully implemented in linux). The "selling point" of this version of syslog is that it does NOT require that you have a network, or even that the network code is compiled into the kernel. Of course, it works fine with a network too. Eric Negaard
